Nike exhibits can be seen in three different locations on Sandy Hook - the Launching Area, the Integrated Fire Control, and Guardian Park. The Ft. Hancock Nike Site (NY-56) is the only restored Nike site in the country where the Launching Area and the Integrated Fire Control are in their original locations.
Launching Area:
The Nike Ajax and Nike Hercules missiles, sitting on their launchers, are on display at the entrance to the Launching Area and can be seen at anytime.
Guided tours of the remains of the Launching Area are conducted only on a very few select days during the year. You will see where the Nike missiles were stored underground and serviced. You will also be able to see two Nike Ajax missiles at our Nike Restoration Project. The parking lot for the missile exhibit and the Launching Area guided tours is located on the left side of the main road into Sandy Hook, shortly after passing the Ranger Station. (Next to the Nike Ajax missile)

Integrated Fire Control:
Guided tours of the Integrated Fire Control (IFC) are conducted on a regular schedule in the spring, summer, and fall. You will see the inner workings of the facility where the supersonic nuclear armed Nike Hercules missiles were controlled and guided from using Cold War era computers and radars. You will also see the displays in our Nike Museum. The IFC is located at Parking Lot "L" (Horseshoe Cove).
While taking a guided tour of this one-time TOP SECRET missile site you will have the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the veterans who actually worked on the Nike Air Defense System. See our schedule for tour dates and times.

Guardian Park:
On May 22, 1958 the accidental explosion of several Nike Ajax missiles at the Leonardo, NJ Nike Site (NY-53) claimed the lives of six Army and four civilian ordnance personnel. A stone memorial honoring the ten persons killed in this tragic accident is located at Guardian Park. A Nike Ajax missile and Nike Hercules missile (main stage) are also on exhibit here to honor all the veterans who served in the Nike Air Defense System at Fort Hancock.
On September 19, 2012, and on September 27, 2013, dozens of Nike veterans who served during the Cold War reunited at Fort Hancock to remember their years of service and to honor the sacrifices of others with a ceremony at the Leonardo Nike Site Memorial and a private tour of NY-56.
These events, attended by veterans from all across the United States, were sponsored by Nike groups from Alaska and New England, and were hosted by the Fort Hancock Nike Association. Special thanks to the National Park Service Rangers for all their help and cooperation in making these event so special.
Guardian Park is located about 3/4 of-a-mile past the Nike IFC site and can be seen at anytime.
